Registered professional welding engineer with more than 40 years of experience in the aerospace, defense, marine, nuclear, automotive, materials handling and job shop fabricating industries. Made decisions and recommendations that resulted in paradigm-shift changes in shipbuilding and large rocket motor manufacturing methods, and played key role in the attainment of QS-9000 certification by 400-employee plant of tier-one auto supplier. Extensive experience includes analyzing, planning for the management of, and improving welding operations; also robotic welding, procedure development, process control, trouble-shooting, tool design, weldment design and the training of welding personnel.

LARGE SOLID ROCKET MOTOR DIV. OF MAJOR PRESSURE VESSEL MANUFACTURER

Lead Tooling Engineer

Led team of up to 8 other engineers in designing and developing more than $6 million of machinery, tooling, jigs, fixtures, and lifting and handling equipment required to manufacture large rocket motor cases for NASA’s Space Shuttle. Participated on multi-disciplinary project teams and used CAE/CAD, Primivera planning program, concurrent engineering and other methods to expedite design, estimating, planning and scheduling. Reported to Manager of Manufacturing Engineering.


5 YEARS

NUCLEAR SUBMARINE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION SHIPYARD

Senior Welding Engineer

Conducted R&D studies and provided welding and materials engineering support for design and construction of nuclear power submarines. Included development of numerous welding procedures per Navy, ASME and other codes. Completed major study of submarine hull fabrication methods which was basis for $20 million shipyard modernization. Reported to Supervisor of Welding Engineering.

METAL FABRICATING JOB SHOP

Co-Owner and President

Responsible for hands-on management of all operations of up to 8 shop and office workers in metal fabricating job shop. Designed products and tooling, planned production, ordered material, set up production machines, developed weld procedures, trained welders and other workers, monitored quality of work. Self-supervised, but had to meet performance expectations of other co-owner.

Plant Welding/Manufacturing Engineer

Responsible for all engineering related to welding operations in 400-employee plant producing welded stampings for automotive industry. Developed and implemented welding management plan, achieved QS-9000 certification for all welding operations, trained welders, designed weld tooling and weld booths, upgraded plant weld smoke removal system. Reported to Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

Welding Consultant/Sr. Manufacturing Engineer

Led welding team supporting fabrication of new line of nickel and titanium products used in electro-chemical plants. Designed weld tooling, improved processes and procedures, and trained shop welding personnel. Reported to Director of Engineering and Materials Management.
